Turning Pain into Purpose: The 2023 Jordan McNair Foundation Baltimore City-Wide Football Clinic

EDUCATION, AWARENESS AND PREVENTION

The Jordan McNair Foundation was established in June 2018 by Martin McNair and Tonya Wilson following the untimely death of their beloved son, Jordan McNair. Jordan was an offensive lineman for the University of Maryland. He died as a result of complications due to a heat stroke he suffered during an organized off-season workout.

Shortly after Jordan’s passing, the foundation hosted its first health and wellness clinic, donating 10 cold water tubs to area football programs and educated 50 parents and coaches about the signs, symptoms, and dangers of heat related illnesses. In 2019, The Jordan McNair

Foundation donated 300 cold water tubs across the nation from Alaska to Florida.

In 2020, Martin “Marty” McNair wrote a book titled “Can My Child Play?

The questions we should have asked” which chronicled the and Jordan’s journeys in life and how Jordan’s death inspired his efforts to educate parents, coaches, and student athletes, to prevent the loss of others to a 100% preventable injury. In 2022, TJMF partnered with Morgan State University and held our annual clinic at Hughes Memorial Stadium. The event was a tremendous success.

This year, youth participants will again receive instruction from Morgan State University football players and coaching staff. Parents will receive important information on what questions to ask before consenting for your child to play, student athlete safety and the signs and symptoms of heat related injuries. Coaches learn about components and the execution of emergency action plans, heat acclimatization and position specific training. Parent and coach training will be conducted by Jordan McNair Foundation.

A significant factor in our success has been the result of generous sponsorship and meaningful partnerships. Your donations will enable us to host and educate even more parents, coaches, and student athletes. Additionally, we will also be able to equip youth sports programs with Cool First Transport Second cold-water tubs through our new partner Preventive Preparation Sports LLC. Your donations matter and will be game-changing and potentially lifesaving.

Thank you in advance for your support!
