“Jordan McNair Act” Officially Takes Effect in Maryland

Good Morning, Friends and Supporters of The Jordan McNair Foundation. We’re proud to share the news of House Bill 326 renamed as the “Jordan McNair Act” has officially taken effect on July 1, 2020. This law will keep our student athletes safe at higher educational institutions in Maryland. This policy will give all of our student athletes a voice to express themselves to the institution’s administration who are not directly involved in athletic programs or activities addressing any safety concerns anonymously and confidentially without fear of retaliation or discrimination within the athletic programs they play for.

Each institution in The Maryland Higher Education Commission must submit the policy and report the number of students who shared concerns under the policy and report the number during the preceding fiscal year as specified. http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2020RS/fnotes/bil_0006/hb0326.pdf

Our work with then Delegate now Senator Shelley Hettleman, Delegate Brook Lierman and Senator Antonio Hayes has made a difference in our journey and mission to keep our student athletes safe at all levels of competition. We thank them for their support and partnership for adding Jordan’s name to this law.

Friends and Supporters, we asked that you share this victory with us by continuing to donate and support our national efforts to promote awareness, education, and prevention of all heat related injuries. Please continue to visit www.thejordanmcnairfoundation.org to view our latest efforts and purchase a copy of our book “Can My Child Play?”. This story of my redemption as a father raising a son to be better than me will bring all of us closer as families and a community.

Everyone please have a safe and healthy Independence Day.

With Gratitude,
Marty McNair and Tonya Wilson
